I tried to implement a third option with kdialog and SUDO_ASKPASS but in the end it got to error prone for a feature which is probably never used (since when kdialog When i open the file directly from a su shell (with /opt/kde3/bin/kwrite /etc/fstab) there is no problem. Whenever launching Kate, whether by opening a text file or by clicking the Kate icon, a dialog box pops up that KDEInit could not launch 'konsole'. I cannot access terminal to check file integrity.
